The first of our blogs groupings to undergo a significant revamp since the Movable Type 4 upgrade has been the Flightglobal blogs, including our most popular blog, Flightblogger, and Runway Girl (shown above).
The redesign had two aims: bring the blogs into the overall site structure, and bring in the new features of MT4.
RBI's creative services did the design work, creating a standard look on top of the provided Six Apart default templates, which could be customised on a per blog basis with an individual header. We used Mark Carey's Template Exporter plugin to package up the design, and make it available within Movable Type as a template set.
Then, all Flight Global's web gopher, Mr Stuart "Disco Stu" Clarke had to do was upload the style images to each blog, and then use the "refresh templates" option to replace the old MT3 templates with the brand-spaking new ones.
Once we figured out the template exporting, it turned out to be a pretty painless process, which gives me hope that we can quickly upgrade the designs of our blogs right across the company.
