Moments from One Man's life

Devonian ViewsOnce in a while, I miss the regularity and routine of the corporate job. That’s not my life any more, though, and recent weeks have sent in my life into something of a spiral of complexity. I’ve been travelling for work, been travelling with the family and also spent too much time in service stations feeding the baby. Various bits of work have wound up and that’s kept me pretty busy. But, in the standard feast or famine freelance life, that’s also meant some free time opening up. It’s partially a relief but also something of a worry as you go from thinking “wow I really wish I had some spare time” to thinking “Oh dear, I’m just just a little stressed that the dry spell might last too long…” Heigh ho.

Oh, and our broadband went down along with the phone line about a week ago. BT has fixed it now and an engineer informs me it was due to cable vandalisation in the local area. Apparently this has been happening in Brighton and Hove and has now moved down the coast. What a lovely export from our more trendy neighbours.

Back online though, and in the process of catching up on the admin I need to do. I’ve also been keen to devote some time to his blog and my web presence in general, and now I should have that time. Investing time in myself and my business sometimes seems hard, because there’s no immediate financial return. But I do enjoy it and it helps bring a focus to what I do. As someone who spends much of his time consulting, it’s useful to focus on doing again rather than advising.
