iPhone, Verizon and US-centric blogging

The current round of hype about the iPhone coming to Verizon in the US tells you everything you need to know about the US-centric nature of most tech reporting right now. The rest of the world, where the iPhone has been on multiple carriers for years, can rightfully yawn and flip to the next blog post. Even the fact that the new VeriPhone will be based on a different technology (CDMA rather the GSM) is pretty much irrelevant to the rest of us, who only have GSM networks anyway.

Mind you, my sense of irony compels me to tell you that I’m writing these words in the US…
