What great timing some people have. Just as the roads get busy after the summer break, the road through the heart of Lewisham is about to be dug up.
Ah, well, soon we won't have any petrol to drive down the dug-up streets.
{I'm not sure the generators running those signs are doing much for Lewisham's commitment to protecting the environment, either.)

That sign has been at the Forest Hill end of Stanstead Road whilst resurfacing was going on. Agree with the timing - the traffic has gone down the toilet yet the 'school run' seems to avoid the blame :\ Surely with the current petrol crisis it's a good time for some electric school buses?
I'd love to see them across London - charge 50% of a normal fare and scrap free travel for under 16's on normal buses. (how much is being lost with free transport on normal buses for the under 16s? - factor in it's the kids that scratch the windows and graf across the bus)

I think I'm right in saying that this is TfL rather than us at LBL; so if anything the generators aren't doing anything for Ken's commitment to the environment...
However, that said, as most of the pollution in Lewisham is caused by vehicles the benefits to the environment of closing the road may outweigh the dis-benefits caused by generators.

Ah, but do the road closures really drive any cars off the road? I suspect they just slow them down, or divert them elsewhere.
However, I'm fairly sure you're right about it being TfL and not Lewisham to blame. Tut, tut, Ken.

Ah! This picture is simply bliss. I emigrated some time ago to canada and am pining for Lewisham. I have been desperately scouring the web for pictures - not postcard perfect scenes - just 'real Lewisham' to remind me of the place that still feels like home (and was for 13 years). Please post more arbitrary street scenes someone - I will never tire of looking at them and searching for familiar faces...and it's great to be reminded why I left as well, instead of remembering it all through rose tinted glasses!
